Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are custom fabricated, synthetic caps that are placed over the prepared natural
tooth structures or dental implant abutments. They are usually made of material like
gold, porcelain, or zirconia.
Crown is typically used to restore a tooth’s function and appearance. When the decay in
a tooth has become so advanced that a large portion of the tooth must be removed,
crown is often used to protect and restore the tooth structure. Crown is also used
prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse, or protect a root canal treated tooth from
fracturing. It is also place over an implant abutment to restore the missing dentition. In
aesthetic and cosmetic dental procedures, crowns are used when the discolored or
chipped teeth needed to be restored to their natural appearance.
Dental bridge is a series of crowns and pontic(s) connected together. Connecting the
good teeth (abutments) with “false tooth”-pontic(s), to form a permanent (fixed)
prosthesis to replace your missing dentition.
Fitting a crown and bridge requires at least two visits to our office. Initially, we will
remove decay, shape the tooth, and fit it with a temporary crown
On the subsequent visit, we will remove the temporary crown/bridge to fit and adjust the
final crown; finally, we will cement the crown/bridge into place and you have a new
beautiful looking smile.
